BSNL MTNL to get 5G spectrum for 5G without auction: Govt

The IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad announced in the Rajya Sabha speech, State Telecom companies such as BSNL, MTNL will able to get spectrum for 5G without auction.

He said the allocation of the spectrum to BSNL and MTNL will be done on the same principle as proposed for the 4G services later this year. The minister revealed that funds of Rs. 24,084 crore for spectrum for 4G services in 2021-22 and BSNL invited an expression of interest (Eol).

Both companies will able to restart their service in Delhi Licensed Service Area (LSA) from April 1. Moreover, Government announced the new rule to pass the telecom network equipped from June 1, This move should be taken to restrict the use of Chinese companies’ gears from the Network.

However, Huawei and ZTE both companies will not able to make its way to India after trusted vendor lists in network issued in next month right before the 1 June rule. We also expected the 5G spectrum will able to announced in the month of July or August in India.

Prasad said BSNL and MTNL have raised Rs. 8,500 crore and Rs. 6,500 crore respectively on the basis of sovereign guarantee has been extended by the Government.
