IT Ministry asks Social Media Firms on Compliance Status, Contact Details

Ministry of Information Technology has asked all the social media firms on their compliance states of new IT Rules 2021 applied after 26 May 2021.

The Ministry IT has asked for contact information of Chief Compliance Officers, Resident Grievance Officer, and Nodal officers must be Indian will include the permanent resistant in India.

In a statement note, IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said the additional due diligence required for such large digital platforms has come into effect from Wednesday. Indian government asked significant social media intermediaries to applied rules in India from today itself.

The new rules require large social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp to follow additional due diligence, including the appointment of the chief compliance officer, nodal contact person, and resident grievance officer.

Google spokesperson already mentioned the they will comply the new IT rules in India starting from Monday in next week.

The new IT rules also require significant social media intermediaries providing services primarily in the nature of the message to enable identification of the first originator undermines the sovereignty of India, security of the state or public.
