The Chinese chipset maker MediaTek quite seems aggressive in order to complete with US based Qualcomm Snapdragon processor in terms of 5G chipsets for mid-ranger and flagship smartphones in this year 2020.
MediaTek has launched today its latest 5G-supporting chipset for mid-range smartphones called MediaTek Dimensity 720 which is designed for global sub-6Ghz 5G networks in Asia, North America and Europe.
The Dimensity 720 chipset is build on the 7nm manufacturing process and employs an octa-core CPU that consists of two ARM Cortex-A76 cores and six Cortex-A55 cores both of which are clocked at 2 GHz and paired with an ARM Mail-G75 MCS GPU that supports video encoding and playback of up to 4K resolution and 30 fps frame rate.
The chip is coupled with LPDDR4X RAM with up to 12 GB of RAM at UFS 2.2. It was support for FHD+ 90Hz displays, MiraVision HDR 10+ video playback, Bluetooth 5.1, Camera will support 64MP module and dual-camera setups at 20MP + 12MP with a range of AI-camera enhancements powered by MediaTek’s integrated APU.
The GPS and NavIC support is also for Indian-content location services. There are a couple of features in this chip to make it power efficient and help in extending the battery life.
It is build with MediaTek 5G Ultra Save technology that uses both network content awareness intelligence to manage the modem’s usage in real-time and reduce the power consumption by always-on voice assistant’s.
MediaTek announced its partnership with first three companies will bring 5G cheapest chipset in mid-ranger smartphones in coming months with Huawei, OPPO and Xiaomi in China first.
