Indian smartphone companies Micromax India and Lava reach to government of India about MediaTek Chipset shortage faces from Taiwanese supplier. Earlier a month ago, Micromax India officially launched two smartphones Micromax Note 1 and Micromax 1b in India under Rs. 11,999 pricing available only on Flipkart and Micromax website.
Lava India also working on new Android smartphone under budget and mid range category with MediaTek Helio chipsets. Due to some chipset shortage issue raised in company supplies, Indian company in talks with government to forces Taiwan suppliers to deliver pending stocks on time.
If chipset stocks are limited, company couldn’t make enough smartphones in the Indian market. The government want MediaTek to raise the supply to local smartphone maker aims claims firm has been supporting Chinese companies like Xiaomi, Realme, OPPO, Vivo and OnePlus.
These company has been achieving their targets to reach for FY21 under the PLI (production linkage scheme). The Government of India has also taken concern and is reaching out through proper channels to MediaTek senior leadership.
Chipset makers were left with little capacity to meet the demands of other smartphone makers. Industry executives told ET told the bulk of the chipsets from the leftover capacity were provided to Chinese smartphone.
