Google, Facebook, WhatsApp complied with IT rules and Twitter refused: Govt

The Top Internet companies including Google, Facebook, and WhatsApp already comply with IT rules 2021, but US-based microblogging platform Twitter refused to comply with it.

A petition filed on Delhi High Court against Twitter India Pvt India and Twitter for failing to comply with India’s new IT rules ( Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code ) Rule 2021 into force form MAY 26.

Govt has given three months to comply with the rules but it has failed to appoint a Resistant Grievance Officer to redress user complaints regarding violation of the provisions of the rules.

The petition comes a day after Twitter and the government had faced off over compliance with the new IT rules said that it will take over users’ freedom of speech and rights in India will hire an advocate in India to challenge the Centre government.

Ministry of Electronics and IT (Meity) which had sent them a letter on Wednesday – IT Rules called the Information Technology Rules, 2021. Twitter sent a communication late-night sharing details of a lawyer working in a law firm in India as their Nodal Contact Person and Grievance officers adding that the Rules require this resistance in India.

These social media which have more than 5 million registered users in India – asking them for details of these officers with their physical office in India.
